Bharathy Premachandra, PhD

Bharathy Premachandra, PhD is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Cornell Action Research Collaborative (ARC). Her research examines how evidence can be generated, communicated, and applied to advance equity in health, education, and social policy.

Drawing on interdisciplinary training in communication, psychology, and economics, her work uses mixed methods to examine disparities across race, gender, and immigration status, with a particular emphasis on community-engaged and policy-relevant research. Her work is grounded in the belief that research should be contextually grounded, accessible, and actionable for the communities it is intended to serve.

Her current work at ARC integrates qualitative and quantitative approaches to better understand how policies and interventions operate in real-world contexts and to design systems that better serve communities. In partnership with state agencies and community organizations, her projects focus on early childhood education systems, family engagement, prior learning assessment pathways, and immigrant experiences in educational and detention contexts. Across projects, she works to strengthen the alignment between evidence, policy, and lived experience.
